There are two Import Licences available to use for sending samples to Rossdales Laboratories from countries outside the UK – one for countries within the EU (including European Free Trade Association members) and another for countries outside the EU.
We suggest that samples from overseas are sent using a courier service (we recommend FedEx). This will enable the shipment to be tracked for the complete journey and hopefully will also reduce delays in transit times. The sender (you) is responsible for all charges relating to the shipment (transport, insurance, customs duties/taxes). It is suggested you put a minimal commercial value on the package as any Import taxes incurred will be charged back to the sender.
As the sender, you must make sure that all conditions of the licence are met. All samples should be packaged correctly and sent in leak proof, well-packed containers with plenty of absorbent material in case of spillage. Ensure all import documentation is correct.
Where asked which Category (1, 2 or 3) the material being shipped is defined as in Articles 8, 9 or 10 of Regulation (EC) No 1069/20091 that it will be:
- Catagory 2 – for faeces, tissues or foetuses
- Catatory 3 – for everything else
A copy of the import licence and all documentation should be placed both inside the shipment and also a second copy attached to the outside.

Once the package has been shipped, please email laboratory@rossdales.com with the tracking number and then we can keep an eye on the shipments progress and try to help with any issues that might arise in UK customs.
