Our Annual Health Check service is available for our sport and leisure horse clients and donkey owners. Preventative healthcare can help identify early any potential problems or signs of disease in order to keep your horse, pony or donkey in peak physical condition.
There are three cost-effective options to choose from, all of which include an annual booster vaccination for equine influenza (‘flu) and tetanus*, routine teeth rasping and a physical examination, which reduces the need for separate visits throughout the year.
Bronze
A Bronze Annual Health Check comprises a physical examination, annual booster vaccination for equine influenza (‘flu) and tetanus* and routine teeth rasping.
Silver
The Silver option includes the above and adds a faecal worm egg count.
Gold
The Gold option includes all of these features, plus a blood profile to assess the general health of your horse or pony.
A general blood profile gives an indication of liver and kidney function, protein balance, red blood cell levels and immune status. Whilst it is not exhaustive, it gives a good indication of general health and is a useful screen if there is a health concern (e.g. suspected illness, weight loss, poor performance, etc.), or simply for peace of mind.
*Please be aware that 6-monthly equine ‘flu booster vaccinations are now required by the governing bodies of most affiliated equestrian disciplines for horses and ponies competing under their rules. Please check vaccination requirements with the relevant governing body/organisation, and with any show centres you plan to attend. If you need to plan an additional booster vaccination 6 months from the date of your Annual Health Check, please discuss this with one of our vets or one of our office team to ensure that this is booked in advance.
