Environmental Sustainability Statement
Rossdales’ leadership team acknowledges that the day-to-day activities of operating a veterinary business has an impact on the environment in terms of resource use, greenhouse gas emissions and waste production. We are committed to continual improvement, to protecting and enhancing the environment in which we operate and to consider and drive sustainable veterinary business activities.
We aim to be sustainable in all aspects of our business operations, to manage and minimise environmental risks across the practice, and to consider sustainable clinical practices and use resources responsibly.
Our environmental policy sets out the basis on which we operate and the areas in which we are demonstrating and striving to enhance our environmental responsibility and sustainability.
Environmental Sustainability Policy
In line with our commitment to applying best practice in relation to environmental sustainability, we have selected the following goals as priorities for our practice:
- To ensure compliance with all applicable environmental standards/regulations, public/client expectations
- To minimise risks to the environment through selection and design of materials, buildings, facilities, equipment and processes
- To ensure that emergency procedures are in place for dealing with environmental contamination and other such events
- To monitor / record our key resource usage, set targets for improvement in each of these areas, and implement conservation techniques to achieve our environmental targets.
- To implement a waste management policy with a focus on reducing, reusing and recycling
- To minimise unsustainable transport use
- To practise responsible medicines usage and disposal
- To publish and distribute an annual organisational sustainability report
- To engage with colleagues and clients to encourage climate action and sustainable animal care
- To undertake sustainability projects with the practice team and implement actions to continue our journey to becoming a carbon neutral practice.
Rossdales Veterinary Surgeons is part of the VetPartners group of practices. VetPartners are passionate about encouraging sustainable veterinary care and reducing their impact on the environment. Their goals include using renewable energy, diverting waste from landfill, undertaking charitable fundraising and ensuring a kind and inclusive workplace culture.
Rossdales will continue to improve our environmental management system through annual reviews and updates, considering any changes in legislation, our organisation and other factors. We will convey this policy to all our colleagues ensuring that they are provided with training and resources to increase awareness of environmental matters and support achievement of sustainability actions.
Our Green Champions (Sarah Boys Smith and Liz Medcalf) have designated responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of this policy.
