Veterinary Nursing
For more than 30 years, Rossdales has been committed to employing qualified, and more recently, Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) and Registered Equine Veterinary Nurses (REVNs). Our professional nurses have joined us from a number of diverse backgrounds, bringing a high level of commitment and skills.
Nursing skills
The hospital nursing team is on call to provide care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our nurses are key members of the clinical team and work alongside our vets, providing the treatment and care needed to ensure that each patient has the best chance for a healthy outcome. They are particularly skilled in the following areas:
- Critical care nursing
- Intravenous fluid therapy
- Wound management and bandaging
- Theatre nursing
- Neonatology
They also play an active role in liaising with horse owners, advising clients on wound care, post-operative care and management of stabling environments when their horse goes home, as directed by the attending clinician.
Training
Many of our nurses have attended college and been trained by our more experienced nurses who act as RCVS Approved Clinical Coaches. Others have completed degrees and have an interest in clinical specialties. Rossdales has an ongoing commitment to encourage existing staff members, who desire to make clinical nursing care their vocation, to train for the equine nursing profession.
RCVS Professional Code of Conduct
All our RVNs adhere to an RCVS Professional Code of Conduct for Veterinary Nurses, which describes the professional responsibilities fundamental to best nursing practice.
