Urogenital surgery may be necessary for a number of conditions and disease in the equine patient.
- In the male patient procedures can include castration (routine and cryptorchid, or ‘rig’), removal of tumours, penile amputation, and removal of bladder stones.
- In mares these surgeries can include caesarean section, ovariectomy, post-foaling injury treatment and surgical intervention for causes of infertility.
Many of these procedures are undertaken using sedation and local anaesthesia, with the patient standing in our dedicated standing surgery suite. A number of surgeries can also be performed using minimally invasive laparoscopic (‘keyhole’) techniques, helping to reduce post-operative complications and hastening recovery.
