Our equine neonatal intensive care unit offers 24 hour specialised veterinary and nursing care, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, and laboratory support for critically ill newborn and older foals.
Many sick neonatal foals require a high level of veterinary and nursing input to maximise the possibility of a successful outcome and our foal care team provides emergency services and routine appointments for non-emergency corrective procedures.
Three dedicated specially equipped boxes for the most critically ill foals allow the mare to be stabled in the same box as the foal, or alongside the foal where they can see and smell their foals over special barriers, so that the natural bonding process is not disrupted.
Additional mare and foal boxes are available in the hospital yard for foals requiring less intensive levels of care. Our equipment includes mechanical ventilation, temperature controlled beds, cardiopulmonary monitoring, blood gas analysis and on-site clinical pathology equipment.
These specialised facilities allow our clinicians and nurses to provide extensive monitoring, support and treatment of sick foals.
