We thought it worth reminding people that from 1st October 2020 it will be mandatory for all equines (horses, ponies and donkeys) to be microchipped.
The equine identification regulations make it a legal requirement for all horses in England, Wales and Scotland to be identified, meaning that the animal will have to be microchipped and passported, and will introduce civil sanctions for those who do not comply, such as fixed penalty notices. Owners will need to get any equine born before 30th June 2009 retrospectively microchipped, if it is not already chipped.
The new Central Equine Database will then allow local authorities and police to track down the owners of dumped horses and make sure they are punished and the animals are given the care they deserve. It will also mean lost or stolen horses will be reunited with their owners more easily.
At Rossdales, we are offering two options that offer great value:
£25.50 (inc. VAT)* - Microchipping (includes microchip and microchip insertion by one of our vets)
£45.00 (inc. VAT)* - Microchipping as above, plus markings chart for identity/passport purposes
* Please note that these prices don’t include a visit fee, which will be additional. However, you can reduce this cost by booking an appointment on a Zone Visit Day, or including microchipping when booking a visit on any day for other veterinary services. If you are booking an appointment for 3 or more horses, NO visit fee will apply.
Contact us on 01638 663150 (Newmarket clients) or 01462 790221 (Hertfordshire clients) to book an appointment with one of our vets.
