We're pleased to welcome Max Bembinov, who joined our hospital team as an intern in July.
Max graduated with honours from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), where he also received the Coleman Medal, awarded to the best final year equine research project. For the same work on the use of Doppler ultrasound in equine tendons, he was awarded first place in the RCVS Future Fellows competition and first prize among MSD Animal Health Veterinary Student Research Bursaries.
During his studies, Max was awarded the MSD/FVE Veterinary Student Scholarship and completed a Beaufort Cottage Educational Trust Veterinary Summer Studentship at the RVC Tendon Biology Laboratory, during which he ran a pilot study investigating cellular senescence and possible methods of its reversal in equine tenocytes. He presented the findings of this study at the 3rd National Veterinary Student Research Conference at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh and received the ‘Best Equine Abstract’ award. He also undertook a placement at Rossdales Equine Hospital during his studies.
Max is particularly interested in equine sports medicine and orthopaedics and plans to pursue further qualifications in these areas upon completion of his internship. He has always had an interest in working with horses and has previously competed in showjumping, representing his university in showjumping competitions during his studies. In his free time now he enjoys skiing, cooking, travelling and occasionally visiting art and history exhibitions in London.
