We're very pleased that Luís Louro has joined our hospital team as an Anaesthesia and Emergency Medical Care Clinician.
After graduating in 2011 from Vasco da Gama University in Portugal, he completed a Master’s degree in Equine Osteochondrosis and spent a year in ambulatory equine practice in Portugal. He then undertook a one-year equine rotating internship at the Veterinair Centrum Someren in Holland. After finishing his internship, Luís moved to the UK and for 5 years he was responsible for the Department of Anaesthesia and Analgesia at two renowned equine hospitals in Berkshire.
Luís subsequently completed a 3-year residency programme in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the University of Liverpool, focusing on equine and small animal anaesthesia, anaesthesia and critical care. He was awarded the Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Equine Lameness Diagnostics and Therapeutics in September 2020 by the University of Liverpool.
A keen clinical researcher, Luís also really enjoys teaching. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in February 2021.
Luís' clinical interests include equine anaesthesia, pain management and recovery quality in horses.
