The 11th Rossdales Foal Care Course took place over 3 days last week at The British Racing School and was fully subscribed, with 65 delegates and 11 internationally acclaimed speakers attending from UK, Europe, USA and Brazil. The course was generously supported by main sponsor Bova UK and a number of commercial exhibitors/sponsors.
Rossdales clinical director Emily Floyd designed the course programme, which covered a wide spectrum of neonatal conditions, with all levels of neonatal care discussed, from advanced hospital medicine to foal management in ambulatory practice. The format was a mixture of talks in the main lecture theatre and case discussions in smaller groups.
The speakers included internationally recognised foal care experts Peter Morresey (Rood & Riddle USA), Niamh Collins (Scone Equine Hospital, Australia), Ramiro Toribio (Ohio State University, USA), Mathijs Theelen (Universiteit Utrecht,The Netherlands), Emily Floyd, Charlotte Easton-Jones, Camilla Scott, Catriona Mackenzie and Caroline Ribonnet (all Rossdales), as well as Rossdales’ specialist equine surgeon Abigail Kent and Rossdales specialist in anaesthesia and critical care Claudia Gittel.
The British Racing School provided excellent hospitality throughout the course and evening visits were arranged to the National Horseracing Museum followed by an informal supper in The Tack Room, and the final evening a superb course dinner was held at the Jockey Club.
We’ve received great feedback about the course and would like to thank everyone for attending: the delegates, our excellent speakers and our generous sponsors/exhibitors (Bova UK, Eclipse, Elite Reproduction Supplies, IMV Imaging, Twemlows Stud and Veterinary Immunogenics).
Special thanks to course administrator Emily Heslop for coordinating the organisation and smooth running of the course.
We have a few extra copies of the Course Notes available to anyone who would like to buy a copy – please email emily.heslop@rossdales.com for further information.
