On a very blustery Saturday, 15th July at The July Festival, the Godolphin-owned and bred filly Race The Wind was an aptly-named winner of the Rossdales British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket Racecourse.

Strong winds, sunshine and heavy showers were the order of the day and the Rossdales race set the standard for a superb day’s racing. Race The Wind is by the young Darley stallion Too Darn Hot and she was making her second racecourse appearance under jockey William Buick for trainer Charlie Appleby. She started as 5/4 favourite and was prominent throughout the race, eventually finishing ¾ length ahead of the Charlie Hills-trained Get Jiggy With It. Race The Wind had already impressed our team in the parade ring ahead of going to post, when judged Best Turned Out of the 7 runners by Rossdales Hertfordshire’s Sarah Moore, Sophie Benton and Emma Chuck, who are pictured presenting the prize to her groom.

Sarah, Sophie and Emma presented the prizes after the race to the winning connections, with Hugh Anderson, Managing Director of Godolphin, representing the owners alongside Charlie Appleby and William Buick, who collected the trainer’s and jockey’s prizes respectively.
