As the summer heatwave continued, the hugely impressive Orion’s Belt led from start to finish in the Rossdales British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket’s July Festival on 12th July, winning by an impressive 3¾ lengths for owners Georginio Rutter and Jinky Farms and trainer Richard Hannon.
Under a confident ride by jockey Ryan Moore, this powerful 2 year-old filly by first season sire sensation Starman, started as favourite and made all, going clear from her rivals a furlong out and staying on strongly.
Rossdales’ clinical director Vanessa Peter and imaging nurse Joana Bourbon attended to present the prizes to winning connections. Trainer Richard Hannon was winning this race for a second time, having previously won in 2021 with Ardbraccan. Before the race, Vanessa and Joana also judged the Best Turned Out prize, which was awarded to the groom of New Vega, who finished second to Orion’s Belt for trainers Simon and Ed Crisford.
