Earlier this year, Nicola Lynch joined our hospital and diagnostic centre as a Sports Horse Clinician and Equine Surgeon. Her clinical work focuses on the investigation and treatment of orthopaedic conditions, lameness and poor performance in sport horses, with interests in orthopaedic surgery and the management of musculoskeletal injuries.
Nicola graduated from the University College of Dublin in 2012 and then undertook a 2-year internship at a large referral hospital in Australia. She subsequently completed a surgical residency at the Royal Veterinary College, focusing on orthopaedic, soft tissue surgery and referral lameness cases. After completion of her residency, she remained at the RVC as a Lecturer and Clinician in Equine Surgery and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2021. Following this, Nicola spent several years working as a surgeon and orthopaedic clinician in a private hospital in Belgium.
Alongside her clinical work, Nicola has been actively involved in equine sports medicine and served as team veterinarian for the Japanese eventing team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and at the 2023 Asian Games. She has also contributed to research in equine medicine and surgery, with published work on upper airway conditions and orthopaedic disorders in horses.
