This two-day CPD course at Rossdales Equine Hospital covers a wide variety of nursing topics and is suitable for all qualified veterinary nurses who want to improve or refresh their knowledge. The course comprises lectures and a practical session on day two, and is organised by Lead Clinical Nurse Samantha Feighery and one of our Lead Surgical Nurses, Natalie Fisk. Talks will be delivered by a number of highly experienced members of our professional veterinary nursing and veterinary teams, including three of our veterinary specialists, as well as an independent specialist in wound care, and the Business Development Manager for Infection Prevention in Animal Health at Johnson & Johnson MedTech UK.
Day 1
Day one starts with talks on nursing the recumbent foal, the use of oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation in the neonatal foal, and developing an infection control policy. The morning session continues with talks on the different types of surgical colic and the nursing care of post op colic cases, plus the role of the nurse in standing surgery. The afternoon session will discuss dealing with cases with chronic pain, nursing the laminitic patient, as well as talks on negative pressure wound therapy and a wounds case study.
Day 2
Day two will start with a talk on how wounds heal and wound closure, followed by a talk on advanced diagnostic imaging techniques (MRI and CT). A talk on the A-Z of sutures will follow and the course will conclude with a practical suture session.
