Elevations of cholesterol and triglycerides are seen in the presence of abnormal lipid metabolism and hyperlipaemia. Commonly seen in Shetland, other small ponies, donkeys and occasionally as a secondary complication in horses that are anorexic or unable to eat.
Haemolysis may cause artifactual increases.
