Mariana is an Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Clinician at Rossdales Equine Diagnostic Centre.
Mariana graduated in 2010 from the University of Porto, Portugal. After graduation she undertook a one-year equine internship at the University of Barcelona followed by two years working in first opinion equine practice in the UK. Mariana first joined Rossdales in 2013 and completed an 18-month internship at the Hospital and Diagnostic Centre followed by a period working in our diagnostic imaging department.
She subsequently joined the Department of Equine Clinical Studies of the University of Liverpool where she completed a 3-year residency programme in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation focusing on orthopaedic referrals, diagnostic imaging and cardiopulmonary/musculoskeletal causes of poor performance. She was then a member of their senior clinical team and a lecturer in Equine Orthopaedics before rejoining our clinical orthopaedics team at the Diagnostic Centre in June 2018.
Mariana is a certified member of the of the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP), a world renowned organisation focusing on equine locomotion analysis, biomechanics and rehabilitation of the horse as an athlete.
Mariana is an FEI treating vet and her main interests are in equine orthopaedics, poor performance and sports medicine. In February 2019 she was awarded diplomate status by the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR). In July 2020, she became an RCVS recognised specialist and a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ECVSMR).
