Katie joined our Newmarket stud team at the beginning of January for the 2021 breeding season.
Katie graduated with distinction from the University of Liverpool in 2018. Prior to and during her university studies, she worked on a variety of stud farms and at bloodstock sales around the world: from Australia and New Zealand, to America and across Europe. During her final year studies, she undertook an externship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky, spending most of her time with the theriogenology (reproduction medicine) department.
After graduating, she undertook an 18-month internship at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, working between Hong Kong and China with the racing vet team. She then stayed on to work as a Regulatory Veterinarian before travelling to Australia to work a stud season in Scone.
Katie was awarded the Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) focusing on Equine Stud Medicine (ESM) in September 2023, after passing the synoptic examination at Liverpool University. Prior to the examination, the certificate comprises a total of 6 modules, each spanning approximately 12 weeks, involving a mixture of lectures, reading papers and drawing from clinical experience for case reports on specific topics, which Katie successfully completed. She was also awarded a postgraduate certificate in Veterinary Professional Studies (PgCertVPS) as she completed the certificate within 2 years.
Katie has interests in all areas of Thoroughbred medicine, but particularly in lameness along with youngstock and broodmare management. She is currently studying towards the RCVS Certificate in Equine Stud Medicine.
