Thoroughbred Overground Endoscopy
Overground endoscopy (OGE) is invaluable for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of equine upper airway disease, a common cause of poor performance in Thoroughbred racehorses. Almost 700 overground endoscopic examinations were performed by our veterinary surgeons between 2010 and 2015, the majority on Thoroughbred racehorses.
Our sophisticated OGE system can be integrated into a horse’s daily exercise routine over the preferred canter or gallop and provides excellent images to allow detailed post-exercise analysis. The high quality video images it captures allows quick and accurate diagnosis of the causes of airway obstruction, many of which that cannot be diagnosed via traditional resting endoscopic examination.
When a problem has been diagnosed, we can offer a full range of medical and surgical treatments to help return your horse to optimum performance.
Ongoing research by Rossdales veterinary surgeons has highlighted the benefit of using overground endoscopy, as some conditions (especially soft palate dysfunction) cannot be diagnosed via a traditional resting endoscopic examination.
