Teeth
Routine dental care is an essential and important part of the primary healthcare of your horse or pony. Your horse’s teeth should be examined at least once a year by your vet or by a qualified equine dental technician. For some horses, particularly those with dental abnormalities, dental work may be required more frequently. Our ambulatory vets offer routine dentistry at your yard and can provide sedation, pain relief and local anaesthesia as required during dental work. This is not always necessary, but where it is deemed appropriate, it does allow a more thorough examination and treatment, while reducing any pain or stress to the horse. This can also be safer for the horse, the vet and the handler.
Dental referrals
In addition to offering a comprehensive ambulatory dental service, Rossdales clinicians deal with a large number of advanced dental cases on a referral basis at our hospital. Rossdales Equine Hospital is a leader in the field of intra-oral imaging and the acquisition of high definition digital images of the dental arcades for assessment and archiving is a standard part of our examination procedure for advanced cases. Intra-oral endoscopy often permits identification of subtle defects within the mouth that can contribute significantly to successful investigations into dental infections and headshaking.
