Skin & Sarcoids
Rossdales offers a comprehensive dermatology and dermatological surgery service, which routinely provides treatment of chronic wounds and removal of skin masses, including sarcoids.
After thorough assessment of chronic and non-healing wounds, a number of skin grafting techniques can be employed to stimulate and hasten the healing process. Following surgery our dedicated team of nurses work closely with the surgeons to ensure that suitable topical therapies and dressing techniques are used to ensure successful and quick healing.
Assessment, treatment and surgical removal of skin masses are undertaken regularly at the hospital, and include a large number of patients with sarcoids. Some cases will resolve with simple topical agents (creams) applied to the masses, whereas others masses will need to be surgically removed, often using a surgical laser (pictured) with the horse sedated and locally anaesthetised in stocks. Research, including some from Rossdales clinicians, has shown laser resection to be one of the most effective surgical techniques in preventing recurrence of such lesions.
