Our hospital performs over 1000 surgeries per annum, around 800 of which are carried out under general anaesthesia. A further 200 standing surgeries are undertaken using local anaesthesia. Our highly skilled, experienced team of surgeons is led by Tim Greet, who is an RCVS Specialist and recognised European Specialist in Equine Surgery. Every case is handled from pre-op through to post-operative care by a surgical team which includes a senior surgeon, an anaesthesiologist, an intern and technical support staff. Our excellent nursing team provides around the clock care, monitoring our patients and administering medication as appropriate to each case.
The hospital has two operating theatres, one dedicated for orthopaedic surgery and the other for the remaining caseload. Linked by an electronic overhead rail system, there is complete flexibility between both operating theatres and any of the anaesthetic boxes. Our facilities will be enhanced with the opening of our new Diagnostic Centre which has a dedicated standing surgery unit.
The hospital deals with an increasing number of difficult wounds referred by veterinary surgeons in practice. These are frequently managed by limb immobilisation in fibreglass casts, or by the use of various 'plasty' techniques or skin grafting.
