FEI launches Clean Sport website

16th February 2010

The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) has recently launched a new and informative Clean Sport website.

On 5 April 2010, FEI rule changes on doping and medication will come into effect and all information concerning those changes, as well as information about the Prohibited Substances list, can be found on the new website.

The website is aimed at a wide audience, including riders, drivers, vaulters, trainers, owners, veterinary surgeons, organisers and equestrian officials, and grooms.

The FEI states that doping and the inappropriate use of normal medications presents a serious threat to the integrity and reputation of equestrian sport, because they give athletes an unfair advantage and threaten the welfare of horses. It says that its Clean Sport Campaign is a coordinated effort at many levels to provide all its stakeholders with the information and tools necessary to address the issue head on.

It also states that the concept of Clean Sport is about much more than a new list of prohibited substances and a new rulebook: it is also about better judgment, professionalisation of the officials that regulate equestrian sport and consistency of decisions. The FEI says the success of the Clean Sport concept depends on everyone playing their part to maintain that level playing field.

Further information can be found on the FEI Clean Sport website.
