Rossdales veterinary surgeon to speak at conference in The Gambia

21st January 2010

Rossdales veterinary surgeon Patrick Sells has been invited to speak at the first Pan-African conference on working equines which will take place in The Gambia between 21st and 26th March 2010.

The conference, entitled 'Better Management, Improved Performance' is being organised by the World Association for Transport Animal Welfare and Studies (TAWS) in association with The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust (GHDT). Speakers and delegates include influential experts in the field from Gambia, Mali, Mauretania, Ethiopia, South Africa, Morocco and Sudan will be present for this unique learning opportunity.

The conference programme consists of presentations and discussions with two central themes of management and prevention. Patrick's presentation, on day one, will be entitled Injuries to Pack Mules and Donkeys in Morocco and is based on his research paper, which is currently in print at the Equine Veterinary Journal. The two-day seminar is followed by an optional extension to visit the GHDT base, where a further day and a half of practical demonstrations will enable delegates to see some of the theory put into practice.

This seminar will be of interest to organisations and people working with traction and pack animals and also to students and newly qualified professionals who would like the opportunity to work in developing countries for the welfare of animals and the benefit of the owners dependent on them.
