Urine Analysis
Routine urine analysis is performed in addition to bacteriological culture. Unless the sample was collected in a sterile manner, via a catheter, the presence of erythrocytes, leucocytes and protein are likely to be of greater significance than culture results. Horses suffering from pituitary adenoma and showing signs of equine 'Cushing's' syndrome are frequently glucosuric. Beware of owners collecting samples in jam jars or milk bottles, giving spurious glucose results.
