Caesarean Section

We usually perform between two and six caesarean sections every spring, using a two team (surgical and foal) approach. Results are now much better for elective surgery and if mares are admitted early in the course of the dystocia, both in terms of foal survival (if ‘ready for birth’ and relatively unstressed at delivery) and mare survival and future fertility potential.
