Rossdales Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Course

A limited number of places are available for a two and a half day course (starts lunchtime on Thursday, two full days Friday/Saturday) which will explore the principles of musculoskeletal ultrasonography, including the normal anatomy of the metacarpal and metatarsal region. It will focus specifically on injuries relating to the superficial digital flexor tendon, deep digital flexor tendon, inferior check ligament and suspensory ligament. Injuries to the palmar or plantar pastern region and its normal ultrasonography will also be discussed. Other areas which will be covered are:

• ultrasonography of tendon sheaths and bursae,
• imaging of joints, including the stifles, hock, carpus and fetlock joints
• ultrasonography of the foot, back and pelvis
• ultrasonographic imaging of traumatic injuries, foreign bodies and sepsis.

The course, which is held in association with BEVA (British Equine Veterinary Association) will be led by Rossdales ultrasound experts Marcus Head BVetMed MRCVS and Mike Shepherd BVSc MRCVS, accompanied by distinguished speakers who include:

Dr Sue Dyson MA VetMB PhD DEO FRCVS;
Professor Virginia Reef DVM DACVIM; and
Professor Roger Smith MA VetMB CertEO DipECVS MRCVS.

Practical sessions

This course will have a strong emphasis on “hands on” practical sessions. These will involve small groups of delegates using high quality machines and will cover the normal ultrasonography of various areas as well as a number of pathological conditions from the metacarpal region, metatarsal region, palmar and plantar pasterns, back, pelvis and various joints.

The course is suitable for delegates who wish to improve their ultrasound diagnostic skills and learn more about this diagnostic tool from a panel of eminent veterinary surgeons who are renowned in their respective fields of expertise.
