Equine eye conditions are a frequent reason for both elective and emergency referrals.
Elective referrals tend to be for expert opinion on potentially abnormal conditions picked up at vetting examinations, although clearly there are a whole host of reasons for referral and expert opinion.
Emergency cases tend to be for assessment and treatment of trauma injuries, and for dealing with severely painful eyes - typically corneal ulcers.
Very often, problems with eye cases occur through failure to comply with prescribed treatment and this is a common reason for referrals. Hospitalisation for eye cases ensures appropriate treatment is administered at frequent intervals around the clock. With all eye cases, both our in house expertise and external expert opinion from visiting ophthalmology consultants (Jane Sansom, David Donaldson and Claudia Hartley) is available.
For further information of referral of eye cases, please speak to one of our hospital receptionists who will organise an appropriate consultation.
