Isolation Unit

We have a dedicated isolation facility separate from our hospital for patients with, or under investigation for, contagious equine infectious diseases.

We prefer to have cases of diarrhoea admitted after negative culture of three faecal samples for Salmonella species. However, in emergencies this requirement can be waived. Similarly, we are able to admit cases of Strangles where treatment is at a level such that hospitalisation is necessary. Most cases of Strangles, however, do not require hospitalisation and to minimise the spread of disease, we do restrict our isolation facility to animals with serious, life-threatening conditions.

Referring veterinary surgeons wishing to refer cases with suspected infectious disease should discuss the case with one of our clinicians.
