Leisure Horses

Our leisure horse veterinary surgeons offer high quality, personalised veterinary services to all horses, ponies and donkeys throughout Newmarket and the surrounding area (see map below). Our services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and in the case of an emergency, you can contact the practice on 01638 663150 and speak to a veterinary surgeon to receive immediate advice or to request a call-out.

We value your feedback. Please take two minutes to complete our short Questionnaire

Our ambulatory practitioners provide a wide range of services at our clients’ premises, including vaccinations, pre-purchase examinations, advice on management (for example, for laminitic horses and ponies), routine dentistry, lameness examinations and treatment, medical conditions, and emergency treatments (for wounds, colic and other injuries).

We have a full range of portable diagnostic equipment, including digital endoscopy, radiography and ultrasonography. This allows our veterinary surgeons to diagnose and treat successfully a wide variety of conditions at stable yards, without requiring your horse to be transported to our Hospital base at Exning, near Newmarket.

However, more complex diagnostic, medical and surgical cases can be referred quickly to our Equine Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, where our clients and their horses have direct access to specialist expertise, care, equipment and facilities, as do the many leisure horses that are referred by veterinary surgeons from other practices throughout the UK. Our ambulatory practice and referred leisure horses have access to our specialist equine clinical pathology laboratory at Newmarket (Beaufort Cottage Laboratories), where many blood, swab, faecal and other samples are tested to help make accurate diagnoses, leading to and monitoring the success of appropriate treatments.

Shared Visit Scheme

Our Shared Visit Scheme offers new and existing clients of our ambulatory practice a 50% reduction on our normal visit charges. Mark Grant is the primary veterinary surgeon responsible for carrying out appointments generated through the scheme, which complements our existing services. The area covered by our ambulatory practice has been separated into 3 regions and on one day per week a Rossdales veterinary surgeon will be in that region. The regions are:

  • TUESDAY : North
    Ely, Brandon, Thetford
  • WEDNESDAY : Southwest
    Cambridge, Saffron Walden, Haverhill
  • THURSDAY : East
    Bury St Edmunds

The scheme is designed to encompass all routine examinations (e.g. vaccinations, teeth, bandage changes, x-rays, health checks etc) but is not available for emergency call-outs, pre-purchase examinations, or more complex or prolonged investigations.

For further information about the scheme or to book a visit, see our Shared Visit Scheme page.
