Rossdales Equine Hospital and Rossdales Laboratories offer a limited number of work experience placements of one-week duration to school and college students with a keen interest in equine and veterinary matters. This can be arranged independently, or through your educational institution.
At our hospital, the programme offers students the opportunity to experience various departments at the hospital site including the diagnostic centre, theatre, and clinic hall. The hospital operates as a referral centre with a wide and varied caseload, providing students with a useful insight into the work carried out within a busy equine veterinary hospital by vets, vet nurses and support staff. Students are encouraged to keep a log book of all cases observed, although we do insist that client confidentiality is maintained in all circumstances. Presentation of cases seen may prove valuable in illustrating the practical experience gained if students decide to pursue careers within veterinary medicine, particularly for consideration for admission to veterinary schools.
Our laboratory offers an opportunity for work experience students to learn about the latest techniques and sophisticated technology we use to provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic laboratory services to equine practitioners. This placement would particularly benefit students with a strong interest in learning more about how a busy diagnostic pathology laboratory operates.
